Once Upon a Time
by Samantha Scarito
I dare to live in the day dreams
Of alternate realities and possibilities
The life I thought I signed up for
A future I saw as structurally mine
Nobody prepared me for this existence
In which I tense and crack
Frustration boiling at the surface, muscles so numb
Grasping for what seemed promised
Wondering where the fairy tale ended
And the nightmare began.
