sudden

Night setting in and your tent looks like a bear toy

forceful

A dead phone and broken charger on the George Washington Bridge without a clue where you’re going

A tank on empty, 40 miles from a gas station

Hollow

A room to yourself but everyone’s outside

An empty inbox you keep refreshing

old friendships gone stale

Freeing

Original thoughts coming out from hiding

Blistered feet from when you kept walking simply because you could

A wrong turn that becomes an unexpected exploration

A day that is filled moment by moment and choice by choice, each your own

Clarifying

The kind of tired that reminds you you are human, and that is beautiful

The simple exchange of hunger for satisfaction with unadorned meals around a fire

Campsites so remote, the stars light your way to bed. 

A reminder of simplicity’s great intricacies
