Did you know that by the age of 50, 90 percent of the population will have been exposed to Herpes?
Herpes is a common sexually transmitted infection that lasts forever. Here is what you need to know about it, and how to deal with it, according to Mayo Clinic Journal.
What:
  • Sexually transmitted infection
  • There are two versions: Herpes Simplex Virus 1 and 2
  • HSV 1 is commonly associated with cold sores
  • HSV 2 is commonly associated with genital warts
How:
  • Sharing lip gloss/cups/utensils
  • Kissing while having a cold sore
  • Sex with someone who has an active or recent cold sore
  • Sex with someone who has an active or recent wart on his/her/their genitals
The Symptoms:
  • Pain and itching
  • Small red bumps or tiny white blisters
  • Ulcers
  • Scabs
Symptom Locations:
  • Butt
  • Thighs
  • Mouth
  • Urethra
  • Vaginal area
  • External genitals
  • Cervix
  • Penis
  • Scrotum
How to Deal:
  • Go to the Center for Healthy Living, located on the first floor of the Life Sciences Building
  • Men: visit your doctor
  • Women: visit your gynecologist
We are intelligent college students who know how to avoid this. Use condoms, or ask your partner when was the last time they were checked for STDs. A moment of sexual passion, can lead to a lifetime of sexual frustration.
